With the Sun transiting watery and emotional Cancer, July’s 5th rather intense full moon and lunar eclipse falls in Cancers opposing sign, earthy and practical Capricorn. The full moon is, as always, a time of culmination and fulfillment, but it is also the time of the month where our emotions are most heightened, and with the final eclipse of this eclipse season connected to this full moon, emotions can easily run out of control.
Even though oppositions can be good for bringing about our awareness, teaching us to find our own harmonious space in between two opposing extremes, a full moon + lunar eclipse in opposition to the emotional Cancer Sun in a wide orb (7 degrees) to Mercury retrograde, this full moon can easily open the floodgates and create some turmoil and confusion, so whenever you are communicating under this full moon, make sure you make yourself very clear, especially around sensitive topics, so no misunderstandings arise.
Do not be surprised if your cup starts to run over, though, as eclipses are inclined to make us feel a bit (or a lot) emotionally volatile and scattered. They tend to speak their message rather loudly, pushing forth the energy of transformation; creating sudden, final, changes in our lives, urging us to let our past die away.
Change is not Capricorns forte though. Capricorn is a Cardinal sign, and cardinal signs like to be in control. Capricorn does not want to focus on what one feels, Capricorn just wants to get things done. Yesterday. Capricorn want structure. Stability. Grounding. But with the eclipse’s influence, and Pluto – the lord of deep transformation – transiting Capricorn as we speak, structure and stability is likely not on the agenda for this full moon. While Capricorn wants to climb his mountain up high, eclipses usually shines light on the dark and deep. Eclipses rules change. And not the gentle kind. Whatever has happened during this eclipse season (kicked off by the full moon in Sagittarius a moon back), is here to stay. To put it this way, if you lose your job, or go through a breakup between two eclipses (the past month), that is usually the end and not destined to be.
Go gently on yourself though. Breathe. You are not perfect, and neither are you supposed to be. Draw in earthy and stable Capricorns grounding energies, not to react too strongly to your overpowering feelings. Fears and insecurities of not being good enough are all likely to come crashing to the surface, and even though you want to avoid getting caught up in irrational emotional intensity – do not block the feelings out either. If a strong emotion comes up, just sit with it for now. Do not act on it. Do not fight it. Do not push it down. Simply feel it fully until it evaporates. Then let it go.
Use your breath to slow down your mind. Breathe. See if you can rise above your own challenging emotions and simply be an observer in your own thoughts and feelings. The better you know yourself, the more you will feel safe to open your heart and be vulnerable to the world around you. The more open you can be, the more receptive you are to the guidance of the Universe. Pluto’s energy may be scary, but it is also incredibly transformational, and the aim is always to transform for the better.
On a positive note, if you are in the mood of a real push to make a change or do something big, this full moon is the perfect time to do it. We all have our mountain to climb, and this Capricorn moon will give you the transformative powers you need to make it to the top. A nice ritual for this full moon is to journal down everything that has come up for you this past month and then offer all the pages written to the transformative powers of the fire. Let go. Release. Transcend.
