With the sun currently transiting watery and emotional Cancer, today’s full moon falls in Cancers opposing sign, earthy and practical Capricorn.
The full moon is, as always, a time of culmination and fulfillment, but with the sun and moon in opposite signs, the full moon is also a time of bringing about our awareness, teaching us to find our own harmonious space in between two opposing extremes.
On the Cancer – Capricorn axis we have the home, family, nurturing, creativity and flow vs. work, career, goals, structure, and rigidity. It is yin vs. yang, the feminine vs the masculine. Soft, fluid water embracing you vs. hard, dry earth supporting you. In some ways, this polarity deals with the balance between unconditional love and conditional love. Cancer encourages us to value our hearth and family, while Capricorn encourages us to focus on our sense of duty and responsibility. While Cancer may be content to be reliant on someone else, Capricorn urges us to be grown-up, responsible, and self-sufficient.
As different as they may be though, neglecting either will leave us scattered and unbalanced, so the trick is to find that middle way, making this full moon all about balancing our commitment to our career and families.
Be patient with yourself as you go though. Rome was not built in one day, remember. Capricorn can easily strive for perfection, but you are not perfect, and neither are you supposed to be. And even though Capricorn may want to avoid getting caught up in irrational emotions, fears, and insecurities of not being good enough or having achieved enough, are all likely to come crashing to the surface around this time.
As tempting as it may be, though, do not block the feelings out. If a strong emotion comes up, see if you can be with it for now. Draw in earthy and stable Capricorn’s grounding energies and simply sit with it. Do not act on it. Do not fight it. Do not push it down. Simply feel it fully until it evaporates. Then let it go.
Sitting with one’s emotions is not Capricorn’s forte, though. Capricorn is a Cardinal sign, and cardinal signs does not want to sit passively focusing on what one feels. Capricorn like to be in control. Capricorn want structure and stability. Capricorn wants to be active, busy and get things done. Yesterday.
So, when all these challenging, and opposing emotions arise, use your breath to slow down your mind. A type of breathing, frequently called “box breathing” where you count to four as you inhale, hold your breath at the top for a count of four, slowly exhale on the count of four, and then hold your breath with empty lungs on the count of four is one of the best breathing techniques to calm anxiety and ground back down into your body. Do it for a duration of 21 sets, and then see if that may help you calm your monkey mind and rise above your own challenging emotions. Simply sit and be an observer of your own thoughts and feelings. The better you know yourself, the more you will feel safe to open your heart and be vulnerable to the world around you. And the more open you can be, the more receptive you are to the guidance of the Universe.
Also, if you need a push to make a change in your life, or do something grand, this full moon is the perfect time to do it. As this lunation harmonizes with Jupiter, the planet of luck and expansion – currently sextile (opportunity) the moon and trine (ease) the sun – you will get a dose of extra confidence and flow boosting your current projects. We all have our mountain to climb, and this Capricorn moon can definitely give you the transformative powers you need to make it to the top.
Full Moon Blessings!
