Summer Solstice, or Litha, as it’s known as in the pagan tradition, occurs between June 20th – 23rd, at the same time as the Sun enters the astrological sign of Cancer. This day marks the first day of summer and the shortest night of the year, and is a time to bring your focus to the light, hopes and blessings in your life.
The summer solstice being one of the most magical times a year, and a joyous time of renewal and abundance, this is a powerful day to draw in the suns life-giving energy, setting your intentions for the future. Let the sun’s rays charge your soul, shedding light on whatever has been hiding in the shadows, clearing the path ahead.
With the shortest night of the year, the summer solstice is also the perfect time to enjoy time outdoors. Spend the day out in nature or in the garden, walking barefoot, truly connecting your spirit to the earth.
Why not start your morning with Sun Salutations to salute to the Sun, followed by an outdoor brekfast or lunch, ending the day with a purifying bonfire to celebrate the fiery element of the sun. Or simply rest, read, play or share time with your loved ones outside, soaking up the light and love of the light that surround us at this time.
It’s a day to slow down, honoring your mind, body and soul, taking time to come back home to ourselves. What has come to an end in your life? Find the courage to let go of everything that you have outgrown, and courageously open your heart to the future. What do you need to bring into your life to better shine your light? What do you need to be the best version of you? Embracing the summer solstice magic – the power of light over darkness – literally anything is possible!
Be brave, be bold, and put your powerful intentuons out there. Hand your intentions to the universe, then let go and and trust that everything will arrive at the perfect time. Then bid farewell to the sun God for now, knowing he will return with the winter solstice in December.
