Your sun-, moon- and rising sign all play a big part in your astrological chart. The twelve signs of the zodiac can be seen as archetypes as they all represents different parts of the human psyche.
Your sun sign defines your personal identity, your ego and your unique self expression, i.e. how you present yourself to others and how the world sees you. The sun moves approximately 1 degree pr day, which gives it a speed of 30 – 31 days through one of the signs, and 12 months to move through all 12 sign of the zodiac.
Your moon sign is the sign that rules your inner being and emotions, and your moon sign will be the zodiac sign that was visible on the night sky at the time of your birth. The moon travels faster than the sun, and moves through all the 12 signs of the zodiac in one month, spending approximately 2 1/2 days in one sign.
Your ascendant, or rising sign is the sign that was on the eastern horizon at the time of birth, thus it is also called the rising sign. The reason your Ascendant/Rising is so important is because it acts like a filter through which the rest of your chart is sifted. The planet that rules your Ascendant/Rising sign is therefore considered to be your “chart ruler.” Remember that in order to know your Ascendant/Rising sign you will have to know the exact time and place of birth.
The first sign of the zodiac is the Aries, and it’s time begins at the spring equinox.
