Capricorn – Climb Your Mountain
When the sun is in Capricorn, the moon will be in the opposite sign – Cancer. It is therefore beneficial both to focus on your knees and joints (Capricorn) and chest/breasts (Cancer)
Yoga Poses
- Mountain Pose/Tadasana and/or Standing Forward Fold/Uttanasana – focusing on lifting the knee caps and engaging the front side of your thighs.

- Garland Pose/Malasana and/or Noose Pose/Pasasana
- Bound Angle Pose/Baddha Konasana and/or Reclining Bound Angle Pose/Supta Baddha Konasana
- Easy Pose/Sukhasana
Do whatever version of the pose that feels right for you, and add props to suport yourself whenever and wherever necessary.
Breath Work & Meditation
Capricorns natural element is Earth so get ready to get grounded. Sit in Easy Pose/Sukhasana, keeping your spine, rolling your shoulders back and down, pushing your shoulder blades gently together and lifting your heart up and forward. Feel the heaviness in your hips and pelvis, imagining roots stretching from the tip of your tailbone, rooting you deep down into the earth. Simultaneously reach the crown of your head up towards the sky or ceiling above you helping you keep your spine long and straight. Place your thumb and index-finger together, forming a circle, straightening your three remaining fingers, in Gyan Mudra – the seal of knowledge. The thumb and index-finger are connected to help the energy flow freely throughout your body and heightens the sense of peace and awareness. Take ten deep breaths in and out through your nose. Fill up your lungs completely on each inhale, hold your breath and count to eight, then slowly breathe out and release all the stress, anxiety or whatever it is that you are holding that is no longer serving you.
Wellness Tip
Capricorn season including the Winter Solstice makes this an excellent time for introspection and planning for the future. It’s a day for taking time out of your day for journaling, and getting clear on your wishes for the year to come, as well as to set intentions for peace, love, harmony and increased happiness both for yourself and your loved ones. Surround yourself with the lovely smell of pine, light some candles, and do half an hour of yoga and breath-work to ground yourself. Then make some delicious eggnog and get ready for some soul searching and journaling, maybe going as deep as getting clear on what thoughts and beliefs gives your life purpose, connecting and committing to your dharma.
Mantra of the month
“I embrace my life’s purpose”
